Christmas Bauble Colour Trends in Australia

If there’s one thing we’re noticing about Christmas decorating in 2026, it’s that colour is back.

Not that it ever really went anywhere, of course. But after several years of pared-back neutrals and perfectly coordinated trees, Christmas is looking warmer, richer and a little more playful again. In 2026, Christmas bauble trends are less about following one strict palette and more about choosing colours that make your tree feel like yours.

So, what shades are we likely to see everywhere this Christmas? Here are a few of our favourites.

Deep reds are replacing fire-engine red

Traditional Christmas red isn’t going anywhere, but it’s getting moodier. Burgundy, cranberry, wine and mulberry tones are bringing a slightly more sophisticated feel to the classic red-and-green Christmas tree. They still look unmistakably festive, but they’ve got more depth than a bright primary red. Pair deeper reds with antique gold, forest green or warm white lights and you’ve got a tree that feels traditional without looking like it’s been decorated exactly the same way since 1997.

That said, if the bright red bauble your child chose five Christmases ago is their absolute favourite? Keep it. A Christmas tree shouldn’t look like a showroom if that means taking all the personality out of it.

Emerald and forest green are having a very good year

Green on a green Christmas tree might sound like an odd choice, but hear us out. Emerald, bottle green and softer mossy shades add beautiful depth amongst the branches, especially when they’re mixed with gold, cream or clear glass. Emerald in particular is emerging as one of the strongest Christmas colour trends for 2026, alongside other rich jewel tones.

The trick is contrast. Choose baubles with different finishes - glossy beside frosted, patterned beside plain, large beside small, so they don’t disappear into the tree.

Champagne, cream and soft gold are the new neutrals

For anyone who loved the neutral Christmas trend, don’t worry; you don’t need to suddenly cover the tree in rainbow tinsel. Cream, champagne, pearl and soft gold are still very much in the picture (they’ve just become warmer and more layered).

These shades work particularly well if you like elegant, modern Christmas baubles, as they give you plenty of room to play with texture rather than colour. Think frosted glass, delicate gold detailing, ribbon and warm metallic finishes. They’re also very easy to live with. Add a few burgundy baubles one year, pale pink the next, or touches of green when you feel like changing things up… the neutral base still works.

Blue is moving from icy to inky

Baby blue and silver will always have their snowy Christmas moment, but 2026 is also making room for darker shades. Navy, midnight blue and blue-grey look particularly beautiful beside silver, white and champagne gold.

They’re polished without being overly formal and make a lovely alternative if red simply isn’t your thing. For Australian homes, blue also feels surprisingly natural. Our Christmas doesn’t exactly happen against a backdrop of snowdrifts and frozen lakes, so there’s no reason our trees have to copy a Northern Hemisphere winter palette. Pink and pastels aren’t disappearing either

Pink has well and truly earned its place on the Christmas tree. Soft blush, dusty rose and lavender are sticking around, while brighter pinks are appearing on more playful trees. Mixed with gold, pink can feel elegant; paired with red, mint or baby blue, it becomes much more cheerful and nostalgic.

That’s really the bigger story behind the Christmas colour trends this year; there’s less pressure to choose one approved “look”. A tree filled with colour, memories and ornaments collected over time can feel far more special than one where every decoration came from the same box.

The biggest trend? Make it personal
